Comparing a 20m and 22m high mast lighting pole is not simply a matter of adding two meters of steel. For importers and EPC buyers, each height needs its own approved structural design, foundation interface and lighting layout.

1. Nominal Height Is Only One Design Parameter
A 20-meter and a 22-meter pole can differ in shaft sections, diameters, plate thickness, base plate, anchor bolts and maintenance access. These dimensions cannot be inferred from height alone. Use only the approved drawing for the exact model and project.
2. Compare Specifications Side by Side
| Item | 20m high mast | 22m high mast |
|---|---|---|
| Nominal height | 20 meters | 22 meters |
| Shaft diameter and thickness | Per approved 20m drawing | Per approved 22m drawing |
| Base plate and anchor bolts | Per 20m foundation design | Per 22m foundation design |
| Wind resistance | Site-specific calculation | Site-specific calculation |
| Floodlight quantity and power | Photometric and structural verification | Photometric and structural verification |
3. Check the LED Lighting Arrangement
Fixture count, beam angle, aiming, luminaire weight and projected wind area affect the design. A 12 × 300W arrangement and a 12 × 1000W arrangement have very different electrical and optical characteristics. Neither option should be accepted without photometric and structural checks.

4. Base Plate, Anchor Bolts and Foundation
Confirm base plate size, bolt pattern, anchor bolt grade and embedment, cable entry and soil design assumptions. Even when two pole drawings look similar, foundation interfaces may not be interchangeable.
5. Maintenance and Electrical Requirements
Review maintenance doors, cable clamps, fuse holders, earthing, lightning protection and safe access arrangements. Requirements differ by tender and local regulations.
6. Avoid These Common Tender Errors
- Submitting a 22m drawing for a 20m requirement.
- Copying anchor bolt dimensions between different pole designs.
- Assuming a luminaire wattage guarantees the required lux level.
- Omitting design wind speed or structural calculations.
- Leaving coating and inspection standards unspecified.
FAQ
Is a 22m pole always better than a 20m pole?
No. The right height depends on the site layout, lighting targets, structural requirements and cost.
Can the same foundation be used for both heights?
Only if a qualified engineer verifies the foundation and anchorage for both designs. Do not assume interchangeability.
