Smart Pole Power Cabinet Design: Circuit Segregation and Maintenance RFQ

Specify a smart pole power cabinet with clear circuit allocation, isolation, surge protection, metering and maintenance access for city projects.
SUNLUX 5G Smart Pole with CCTV Camera, LED Display, EV Charging, WiFi and IoT Smart Street Lighting Solutions

A smart pole power cabinet often serves lighting, communications, cameras and optional display equipment. These loads do not necessarily share the same duty cycle or power quality requirements. Before issuing a tender, separate the electrical questions from the visual pole design and ask for a circuit schedule that installers can actually use.

List loads by function and operating schedule

Create a load register for luminaires, CCTV, gateway, network devices, display and any optional accessories. Record rated and startup demand where known, required voltage, backup requirements and whether each device runs continuously. Do not assume that all connected equipment can be placed on one lighting circuit.

Define isolation and protection

The electrical designer should specify isolation points, protective devices, earthing and bonding, and surge protection suitable for the site and local electrical code. A maintenance technician must be able to isolate a failed subsystem without unnecessary disruption to unrelated services. Cabinet ventilation, water ingress protection and condensation control also need project-specific review.

Separate network and power routing

Document pathways for AC power, low-voltage feeds, data cables and any fiber connection. Check bend radius, cable gland locations, access clearances and future replacement routes. Where separation or shielding is needed, follow applicable local installation requirements and the equipment manufacturer’s instructions.

Plan testing and handover

Ask for a single-line diagram, circuit identification, terminal schedule, equipment data sheets, labeling convention and as-built record. Commissioning should verify protective devices, supply continuity, isolation functions and each subsystem’s normal and failure states. The final design requires qualified electrical engineering approval.

Frequently asked questions

Can the CCTV share the luminaire circuit?

Only after the designer confirms supply continuity, load behavior, protection and applicable rules.

Is spare cabinet space useful?

Yes, when planned against realistic future equipment, thermal limits and maintenance access.

Does the pole supplier certify the entire installation?

Site electrical compliance must be verified for the complete installed system and jurisdiction.
