Landscape lighting procurement often emphasizes fixture appearance and initial price. Park operators, resorts and facility managers also need to know how a failed driver, sensor or luminaire can be serviced without damaging paving or landscaping. Maintenance access belongs in the RFQ, not in a later repair dispute.

Identify serviceable components
Ask which parts are replaceable in the selected garden light model: driver, photocell, optical module, seals, cable assembly or complete head. Not every fixture is designed for component-level field repair. The supplier should distinguish available spare parts from items that require factory service.
Check access in the landscape plan
Review mounting locations against planting beds, irrigation lines, retaining walls and pedestrian paths. Technicians need safe working space and an isolation method. Coordinate buried cables and foundations with the landscape contractor before construction.
Protect the enclosure during maintenance
Repeated opening can compromise seals if gaskets are damaged or fasteners are incorrectly tightened. Request the correct service instructions, replacement gasket policy and any recommended inspection intervals. The product’s stated ingress rating should not be treated as a guarantee after poor field reassembly.
Create a small but useful spare-parts strategy
Record model numbers, driver variants, control types, finish and color-temperature choices. Keep a consistent asset list and define which spares are critical for the site’s service targets. Procurement should consider availability and replacement lead times, not simply the cheapest initial luminaire.

Frequently asked questions
Should every garden light be field-repairable?
Not necessarily. Compare the cost and practical service method for the selected fixture.
Does an IP rating survive every repair?
No. Seals and assembly must be restored correctly.
How many spares should a park hold?
Set stock using installed quantity, failure risk, lead time and required service response.
